We have all heard about Leonardo Pisano or failing that, we have definitely heard about Fibonacci, the mathematical prodigy of Italy whose observations made as early as the 13th century still guide people how to play roulette today. It’s an amazing pattern that was first spotted hundreds of years ago. In the Fibonacci sequence, each number adds up to the sum total of its previous two. It’s a fascinating idea and one that is found in nature.
So, what do we mean here? Well, if the sequence starts with a zero and one, the next number will be a one, the sum of the two. Then, you add the one plus one and you get a two. Then you move up the sequence, and you get a 3. It’s really that simple and easy to follow.

Alright, so a quick question for you. What’s the next number in this sequence? Well, you guess this one correctly, 2+3 is indeed 5. But this sequence would not be meant much to gamblers was it not for the work of Blaise Pascal who created the roulette wheel in the 18th century. How Does the System Work
The system contains 10 numbers, which are:
0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, and 34
Because we are using the sequence for the purposes of gambling, we advise you to start with a 1. So, the sequence is now: 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34.
Okay, one thing to note down here is that this system will apply to even money bets, such as Red/Black or Odd/Even, or High/Low. The betting starts with £1 which is the first number in the sequence. Let’s say our bet loses this first betting round. Well, we bet £1 once again. This bet loses again.
This means we are betting £2 now. If that bet loses, we now bet £3. If this loses again, we bet £5. This means we now need to bet £8. As you can see, we are just moving up the sequence, nothing more.
Now, what happens if we win? Well, we move down two numbers in the system, which means we are back at £3. If that bet win, we are back to 1. If the wager loses, we go up to £5. Alright, let’s take a look at what happens when losing this system.

Bet £1 and win the wager. We use £1 for the next bet to restart the sequence once again.
- Spin 2
We lose this bet. The system urges us to now go up to the next number, which is £2.
- Spin 3
We lose that bet as well. The system dictates we go up to £3 on the next round.

We end up losing the bet as well. This means we stake £5 on the next one.

We lose the bet. Time to up the wager to £8.
- Spin 6
We win this round. Now we lower our stake by two levels back to £3.

Back to our losing ways. We once again increase this wager to £5.

This bet bucks the trends and wins! Now we lower the stake by two levels back to £2.

We win again. We now go back to our £1 base stake.
Let’s Test the Fibonacci System
Alright, so with this knowledge, it’s time to test the system. We did a simulation of the system over 500 rounds. According to the house edge, the losses and wins probabilities are 52.4% and 48.6%, respectively. We also simulated participation from three players. Now, we used JavaScript code to execute the simulation and see what happened each step of the way. The results are actually fascinating. Let’s take a closer look so we may understand them better ourselves. First player results.
Alright, so as you can see, there was no noticeable growth in this progression. The player only reached the £89 progression two times. The low-point of his bankroll was £877, and at the end of the game, the player ended with £1074 – or £74 more than the £1000 he started with.
This is what happened to the second player:
Here, just like in the previous player’s case, there was no noticeable increase or decrease in the overall performance for the player. The session ended with £1124 for the player, still a decent £124 gain all things considered.
The third player:
In the case of the third player, the results remained fairly the same. The player amassed £1139 in the end, which was a pretty good overall performance all things considered. All three players followed the Fibonacci sequence to a T without any deviations from it, which made the game very interesting. All three players turned a profit, though, which is unlikely in any other system we have tested! However, the progression system can end up putting you out of business, but this did not happen. It takes 14 straight losses, in theory to dismantle your bankroll.

What to Watch Out in Fibonacci?
So, there are some sources that will say that this system is very risky as it could quickly put you out of money. Well, this is not entirely true, and as we have shown in three individual examples, this is simply not the case. But there is one thing that you do need to remember and prepare for – your bankroll. You cannot enter this system with insufficient funds lest you run out of money. But this is pretty much applicable to any betting system out there and cannot be held against Fibonacci per se.
We still believe that this moderate progression system makes the risks here minimal and that the only problem that you may have been that you will need to be patient and play through hundreds of rounds. You need to make sufficient time.
Final Word from the Fibonacci Experts
All in all, we managed to successfully test the Fibonacci system across three individual play-throughs, and we saw that the end of the progression was hit in only one case – with £89 for player one. None of the other players came to that number, and that is because of the nature of Fibonacci. If we lose, we go up, but if we win, we go back two numbers, which is precisely what makes this system so great in the first place.
It's unlikely that you will go beyond the set table limits, unlike with other systems such as Martingale for example. Even though Fibonacci does look a little bit more complicated at first glance, there is nothing so difficult about it really – you just need to follow the same rule and you will find that even a £100 bankroll will work for you. It’s interesting how this universal mathematical tenet turned out.
When Fibonacci was inventing his sequence, he was trying to observe life and patterns that he spotted mathematically and wanted to have a clear representation of those things – and the universe itself. He had little idea that his work will serve as the basis for one of the most successful roulette strategies in history. He may be none the wiser, but we will always remember and possibly use this stratagem to make the best out of every session of roulette we choose to play through.
