Testing and Analyzing Paroli System

Last updated: 05.04.2024 by Andrew Shepard

We have previously spoken about the Martingale roulette strategy. Now, we want to take a closer look at another stratagem that is closely related to it, the Reverse Martingale, or as you may have heard about it – the Paroli System. The idea here is that if you lose, you will set the initial minimum bet. If you do win, however, you will double your bet.

How Does Reverse Martingale Really Work?

So, the way we can test the system is simple. It’s also simpler to explain how it works by showing it. We take a base bet of £1. We bet on the even money bets that is high/low, even/odds, or red/black. If we win, we double, and if we lose, we return to the original bet. Here’s an example.

Paroli (reverse Martingale)

Example

  • Step 1

We bet £1 on black. The bet doesn’t win.

  • Step 2

We bet again £1 on black. The bet wins.

  • Step 3

We bet £2 on black, and we win again.

  • Step 4

Now we bet £4 on black. If we lose, we bet one again.

  • Step 5

We bet £1 because we lost the £4 bet.

What Did Our Test of Reverse (Anti) Martingale Reveal?

So, we decided to use a Google Sheets simulator of the strategy to give you a more precise overview of it and how it performs in the long and short term. We set the number of rounds to 1000 and gave each of the three players £1,000 as their bankroll. Here is the result.

reverse Martingale

So, as you can see, the progression in terms of how much money you have is diminishing. This is simply because the odds of losing are higher than the odds of winning. You are also doubling after a loss, which means that you are spending more money. However, Player 1 had instances in which where he pulled ahead and marked a net gain. Player 2 also hit a very big net profit of £2,883, but he did not leave on time and ended up losing much of that in the end. Meanwhile, there was Player 3, who did not have any lucky break, making it hard for him to have an enjoyable time indeed. The players all ended up with £482, £498, and £469, respectively.

So, this graph should be fairly sufficient to draw the conclusion that using it and playing without quitting after amassing a big bankroll will practically result in a loss in the long run. There could be a tangible profit here, though, and the reverse martingale system is actually believed to be less risky.

Things to Mind Using Anti Martingale

So, there are some things to be mindful of when it comes to this strategy, and it’s good to always address them head-on.

Betting limits are a barrier: Sometimes, a game of roulette could have a high-end betting limit of £10,000 which means that you need a substantial bankroll to continue trying to make up for a loss. You also need to know when you need to quit and finish a session with a solid sum to your name. Remember that you still need time and patience to get that one move that will secure the deal for you.

Conclusion and What We Found

So, as you can see, we have tested the Reverse Martingale system with three players. This system tends to be a bit better than the traditional Martingale system, as we have already hinted. Most people tend to compare the two, so we wanted to do the same. The classic Martingale has an increasing progression, but it has a big chance of losing your bankroll very quickly.

Then again, the Paroli is a negative progression system which makes it less likely to hit a zero very quickly. It’s still all down to luck, as you can see from the examples we shared with you, but the fact remains that Paroli definitely gives you a bit of a fighting chance in comparison to its sister strategy.

Once again, the key to success here is actually very easy to understand and put into practice – you just need to stop while you are ahead. If we are to give you the odds of something happening, such as 7 consecutive wins, the chances stand at 0.71%. For ten, the chances are 0.09%. Because of this, we will argue that Reverse Martingale makes so much more sense when you come to think of it. Of course, you can still benefit from your knowledge of both systems and use them smartly.
