Testing Corner Bets

So, are corner bets any good? We once again used our Google Sheets test to have a look at how sustainable this type of wagers are. In our testing, we also used a random number generator. Once again, we offered four players a $1,000 bankroll and players 1-4 wagered $1, $2, $3, and $5, respectively. The betting was done over the course of 1,000 rounds.

Here are the results. As we have expected, there was a general trend in bankroll decline, which was more gradual, though, compared to other betting systems and types of wagers to begin with. Player 3 saw a small profit boosted by several hot steaks, whereas Player 1 earned a profit that was owing to his more consistent results. Then again, Player 4 saw fluctuations of +$270 and -$300, clearly due to the fact that he was betting with a much bigger bankroll, to begin with. The trend here is clear – in the long term, we will see players lose money on corner bets (just like any other bets, to be fair). The question is if you can fold your session while you are ahead. We only played 1,000 rounds to offer a fair comparison.

Tips and Strategies for Corner Bets

Right, so you probably want to make sure that you understand corner bets much better now, and this is possible. We have prepared a quick look through several systems that will help you understand what is happening here.

Romanovsky System

If you are unfamiliar with this particular system, we did a separate guide for it, so you can go ahead and have a look. Meanwhile, here is what you have to do to apply the strategy to corner bets and make a clean cut of it.

• Bet 3 units on any two Dozens
• Within the remaining Dozens, find two non-overlapping corner bets and place 1 unit on each
• This way, you now have 32 out of 37 possible numbers covered at odds of winning 86.48%
• You can change the Dozens and the Corners in any way you see fit

Thanks to the Romanovsky system, you have a very good chance of winning. However, you need to be aware that sooner or later, the odds will catch up to you, and you will be losing money. You need to limit your time using Romanovsky’s system.

4-Corner System

The 4-corner system is another strategy that you can put to good use. It was suggested by Roulette Man. Let’s take a look at how this strategy works and if it’s any good in the first place:

• The first thing we do is we divide the inside betting section into four different fields of nine numbers. For instance, the first section could be 1 through 9.
• In one round, we bet on 4 corners around the central numbers. A quick example here would be the following group: 3-2-5-6, 5-6-9-8, 1-2-4-5, 4-5-8-7
• For each group, a separate progressing betting type is placed, represented by 1-1-2-4-7 units. Each loss means to shift by 1 step. Each step of the progression is the base bet assigned to the group.
• When we lose, we place the next bet for the quarter in which section the loss occurred.
• When we win, we pick an arbitrary number and play in this corresponding quarter for the next turn.

If you think that this system could have a negative impact on your long-run potential to win at roulette, you are correct in your surmise. No system is truly ideal, and they will all result in a loss in the very long term. The good news is that you can use this and other systems smartly and successfully in the short term.

5 Quad System

A Quad System makes it enjoyable to combine corner bets with straight-up bets. The system is actually very easy. Here is an example of it in practice:

• Begin by placing 5 non-overlapping corner bets first
• Then, add a single straight up bet which can be both at the intersection with some of the corners or separately – the position of the straight up bet can change quickly throughout the play

This type of betting system lets us cover 21 total numbers, and a straight up bet win will let you actually score a very big win.

Of course, this system is also not a surefire way to win, and you can expect some bad turnouts on occasion. You can pick your straight up bet and corners as you see fit as well. The picture is just for illustrative purposes.
